Just had to take my baby girl to the hospital...

edited September 2011 in Babies
Her cord was bleeding a little bit, which the nurse on the phone told me wasn't normal. We went in, and the nurses cleaned it, and it started bleeding a little more. And she was screaming her head off, I felt so bad :( They said she was fine, and it was just like when a scab bleeds sometimes when its about to fall off, and there was no sign of infection. She's 12 days old, and it hasn't fallen off yet, when did your babies cord fall off? Has anyone dealt with their babies cord bleeding?

  • My son's cord was not coming off and was still wet and bleeding some so my pediatrician put stuff on it that dried it up and then it came off like a day later. I think it was called liquid nitrate

    @minirip
@mommyoftwoprincesses I've been cleaning it with alcohol wipes too, but it hasn't fallen off yet. I guess hers is just taking longer. But now I'm scared to hold her on my chest when I burp her bc I don't want it to get caught and bleed more.

I'm so glad it wasn't just my baby! It was starting to freak me out, that it was bleeding.

@mommyfor3 hers was dry, but then they poured some alcohol on it and put some antibacterial cream on it, and now it looks a little wet again. I wonder if it doesn't fall off by her well baby appt, if they'll but that stuff on it to dry it up.
  • My daughters fell off at exactly 2 weeks. I never touched it with alcohol or anything, I just left it alone and never had any problems with it.

Only took 5days for Lily-Mae's to come off healed really quickly! i know its awful seeing them like that :'( used to hate it when Lily-Mae would scream when she was constipated made me want to cry with her and used to feel sick to my stomach!

  • I was told with my youngest the don't us the alcohol on it or give it out anymore. It just keeps it wet and takes longer to fall off. So I didn't use it with my third child and it came off before my older 2 did.
  • @rockinmomma @trisha hmm, I was told when she was born to wipe it with alcohol pads every time I change her diaper, bc the alcohol dries it out.
  • My sons came off after three days my fiance and I freaked and called his doc at midnight but he said as long as it wasn't bleeding he is ok
  • My sisters baby girl had a thick cord and it took 6 weeks to fall off... We started to alcohol swabs at 3 weeks cuz the doc said it needed it.
  • my son's came off like 8 days. I was told not to put anything on it
  • @abby5 my daughters is thick too. I wonder if thats what's making it stay on so long.
  • hm. my daughters came off about 9 days old and son's came off around 13-14 days?
  • It olny keeps it wet. That's why most doctors say not to use it anymore. It falls off on its own.
  • My daughters came off at 14 days! Hers bled a little bit also!
  • I was told not to use anything with my last one too...
  • My daughters fell off when she was 5 days old but it continued to bleed and scab for another week or so its normal for a little blood

  • If your dr told you to use the alcohol, keep doing it. Different drs do it different ways. We used the alcohol for my daughter and it took exactly 14 days, it literally just popped off with no warning one morning.
  • My sons came off around 7 or 8 days.
