I never thought of the long stretches of sleep as unnatural, but after reading this, it makes total sense. Babies waking up in the middle of the night might actually be a good thing!

It really irks me to see people giving their newborns cereal in their bottle to try and get them to sleep through the night...guess what?! Baby will sleep through the night when baby is ready! Yes, being sleep deprived sucks complete butt, but welcome to parenthood!!
@LilSugarsMomma I agree. A lot of family members have told me to give cereal but I'm not. I would never try to MAKE my baby sleep longer. She will when shes ready. Getting up with your baby throughtout the night is a part of being a mother.
@Mimii36 That's exactly what I'm saying! And, when baby is sleeping through the night, it will make your long stretches of sleep THAT much more enjoyable haha.
@heyitsme I would think so up until a certain age. I think the first 3 months are when the risk of SIDS is highest, and it drastically goes down after that. If I'm not mistaken, those first 3 months are the months in which babies aren't generally sleeping longer than about 4 - 5 hours at a time.
My almost 8 month old sleeps about 9 - 10 hours per night, but she's older and has created her own sleep pattern. She still wakes up whimpering and crying twice in the middle of the night, but I give her the binky, a kiss and gently stroke her hair until she's back to dream land - which takes about 45 seconds.
My baby has been sleeping through the night since she was 2 months. And she started on her own. not by cereal in a bottle..I didnt put cereal in her bottle until about 4-5 months and thats only during day. shes just a big baby thats why i do it not to get her to sleep
I haaate it when others tell me to certain things like cereal in bottle to sleep through the night, water or karyo syrup for constipation, sugar or honeyed water for gas/upset tummy. My mom is the worse when I say no...that's bad or I'll ask his ped or honey is not to be given to infants under 1. I get the"I don't know how I raised 4 kids without killing one of you!" Drives me insane!
I've read that before too. Never had thought about it that way till I did. But it makes so much sense! And bents old pedi told me to start cereal at 2 months so he'd sleep longer. Did some research and saw that. So I didn't. I waited till 3 months when he started acting like he wanted food. But he's always been a substantially good sleeper anyway. He woke up every 2 hours till he was like a month old then start sleeping 4 to 5 hours at a time. That's fine with me! Lol.
@ta2edblondie I skipped it as well. I like the idea of not having to buy baby food, having baby eat what I make for the whole household is healthier in my opinion
