shaving my cat npr

edited February 2012 in Just for Fun
So my cat is long/medium haired. He's indoor and outdoor. I just noticed he has a few hard mats on him. Would it be mean to shave him? The groomer said it would cost me $55 for them to do it

  • If its cold where you are and he is an outdoor cat, shaving may not be a good idea right now. If he is only indoors then its not mean, even though he may be a bit traumatized. I usually just cut the matted hair out and increase the brushing. Its bound to happen.
  • @crisjoe yea I wouldn't let him outside. The mats this time are up against the skin. I'm worried I may cut him. Maybe I can find a cheaper groomer
  • I don't know where you live but I'm a groomer and for a cat that's a pretty good price. Cats are more expensive cuz they are more dangerous than dogs. And definitely don't cut them out yourself! Cats have super thin and super stretchy skin, so not only is it easy to cut, what you think is a small cut is usually a much bigger cut. Just how their skin is. But yeah, as looking as you keep him inside he should be fine. I've had clients buy sweaters for them just till their hair comes back. But mats can be very painful, dog or cat so usually best to prevent it.
  • I have a long hair cat and we shave him every June. By September his hair grows back to normal and it's perfect. He's indoor only but he sheds so bad in the summer and in CA it gets really hot so I think he likes his summer haircut. $55 is an awesome price for a cat, petsmart charges $75.
  • I get my long haired cat shaved every spring because she gets matted in the winter. I swear she loves it! She's 11 years old and acts like a kitten when she gets her hair cut :) I take her to petco and its around $40.
  • Hehehe plz post a pic when he's shaved :)

  • The title for this discussion could have been slightly misleading if you used a diffrent word for cat.

You are apparently more mature than I am. :))
  • @conreeaght lmao I know I was thinking that as I was writing it. So I put npr so we would sorta know but then again lol....
  • I only opened this because I thought we were about to be talking about a different kind of cat. Lol!
  • Prices for grooming animals varies greatly on where you are located. In California I worked at Petco and you couldn't get a groomer to touch your cat for less than $50 and if you wanted it bathed it was at least $70. I've never groomed a dog for $30 unless it was a favor.
  • Omg am i the only dirty minded one?? Lmao
  • Lol yea unfortunately it's a real cat Lol.
  • Lol i was thinking the same dirty thing

  • Wow where I live it's 60$ for my dogs, and I have three! I think it's best to leave the grooming to the pro!
  • Bunch of pervs! Lmao
