  • Hi guys I hope all of your little ones are healthy as can be! But I too am I high risk pregnancy this is my second I'm 18 now but I was 17 when I got pregnant with my last baby. I was 5 months when I had my first ultra sound they said there was a "bright spot" in his heart. They sent me to a specialist and Dr confirmed my baby had a tumor in his right atrium called rhabdomyoma and fluid in his chest called pericardial effusion. It progressively got worse and his movement decreased and mothers day was the last time I felt him move went to Dr may 10th no heartbeat he died in my belly at 27 weeks and they induced labor and had him the 12th. So I go down to the same specialist now for frequent ultrasounds I'm now about 11 weeks with this one and had an ultra sound 2 weeks ago and the heartbeat was 162 :) so I'm excited but scared I don't want a replay :( praying hoping for the best. Stay positive ladies we will make it through anything we are strong and don't ever forget it :)
  • BTW a genetic counseler is basically someone who goes through the mommy and daddies family history and asks if certain disorders are known in your family to see what the percentage if it being passed to your baby is. And if they find abnormal blood work and they have enough info on your history about genetic defects chromosome issues they will offer to do an amniocentesis which if you don't know what that is. They take a needle and inject it into your belly to take some amniotic fluid to run test on to try to figure out early what's wrong and if they can fix it early :) hope I helped I had to see one with my last pregnancy its not scary lol just lots and lots of questions
  • Extreme high risk here. Was put on bed rest at 7 mo with #1 for complete placenta previa. #2 at 6 mo. I was diagnosed with cancerous ulcerative colitis. Almost lost my son, hospitalized for more than 6 wks altogether and obviously bed rest afterwards. Tafter #2 I had my entire colon removed, ileostomy reversal, full bowel obstruction. So I am on watch and at 6 months I will twice amonth, at 7 months twice a month w nonstress tests. And by the end every wk and non stress tests 3 times a week.
  • This is my second. Baby and i'm high risk. I had my first baby was born at 29weeks with total abruption and eclampsia she was born still born. They worked on her for 45 mins and brought her back. With this baby i go every week for a visit and us for i now have a shortened cervix. I also get p17. Shots weekly. Good luck everyone and keep in touch
  • @candace42 - I have had Diabetes now for almost 19 years. No complications from my diabetes with this pregnancy or my first. I did have a miscarriage in July 2009. The high risk doctors said it was just something that happens but I know it was from my diabetes not being well controlled like I should of been. Life kinda got ahead of me...
But with well maintained glucose levels, you can have a healthier baby than someone that doesn't have diabetes.
My first baby was same weight as I was when born, 7lb 3oz. Very healthy little Guy. And this pregnancy is going good. Baby is right on growth target and heart and brain looks beautiful.

As far as advice, I'm not going to preach to you because you're not a just diagnosed diabetic. But pre and post glucose checks are very important to make sure your insulin is doing what its supposed to be doing- weather you took too much or not enough... If you let your glucose levels get Hugh through your pregnancy, it could harm the baby dramatically. A number of things could happen.. mess with the baby's heart or brain- birth defects- you could deliver a very very big baby- stillborn- I mean a lot could go wrong if you are not very closely monitored during pregnancy. Also, if you're not on an insulin pump, now is the time to get on one. With being pregnant, your doctor can get your insurance to cover it and it is a lot better to use while pregnant. I have been on a pump for about 8 years now and I would never ever go back to shots.

Was there anything specific you had a question about?
  • @rossbabies I am also considered high risk because I am having boy and girl twins! I am 33 weeks and was put on bed rest right at 29 weeks although I havnt had any preggo sickness or complications yet. I just started getting heartburn at 31 weeks and my joints, hips and back are hurting a lot more now. Do you know what your twins are yet? How far along are you? Have you had any complications so far?
  • I'm considered high risk due to gestational diabetes and hypothyroidism. I can only gain 15 pounds the entire pregnancy and have to test my blood four times a day and take insulin and a thyroid medication.
  • I don't know if my doctors consider me high risk but I sure do because my first pregnancy ended in an abruption during labor at almost 41 weeks and they found that I have a slight tendency for clotting so I'm taking daily blood thinner injections this time around. Unfortunately I'm at a higher risk for having another abruption and if it's a matter of life or death for my baby...then it's high risk to me.
  • Found wonderful news today the babys percentanges are right where they should be and the babys mesuring only three days further than my due date plus it apparently is 11 oz not sure how the ultrasound tells em all of that but they told me no worries so far healthy baby boy at this point
  • I'm a high risk mamma too. I have a 2 vessel umbilical cord instead of the traditional 3 vessel. One of the arteries is missing. It means less food and oxygen for my baby. its found in 1% of pregnancies. But I'm 25 weeks, my boy is already almost 2 lbs, and his growth is in the 56%ile. Ladies, we all deserve miracles, and I'm praying for one for each of us.

I'm high risk cuz I had 2 miscarriages b4 my son I was induced at 38 weeks cuz of toxceima poison with him n I'm scared I'm goin to get it again with this pregnancy
  • Im considered high risk due to 4 previous mc 2 tubals (1 that almost killed me) & I have 3 boys. This is pregnancy 10 for me but baby #4. All is well right now but I have to be very careful and have lots of ultrasounds & monitoring. They told me I would never have kids & I have 3 with the 4 th on the way so I guess I proved them wrong. Good luck ladies & sorry to hear bout all the high risks.
  • Twins here, plus risk for preeclampsia.
  • I had preeclampsia w/ my daughter and didn't know it. I went into the dr for my regular prenatal check-ups 3 months in a row w/ really high blood presure. My dr told me @ all 3 visits not to worry, it's normal. A few days after my 7th month visit, I ended up in the hospital w/ a grand maul seizure and other problems due to the preeclampsia. Needless to say they did an emergency c-section and the outcome wasn't good. Now almost 3 years later I am pregnant w/ baby #2. I am so scared that something is going to go wrong. I hope I'm over thinking everything and that everything will be just fine ;-)
  • I am high risk because of my blood clot. I got it when i was 16 from taking the birth control yasmin. The blood clot is from my right knee up to my belly button. I still have the blood clot and will for the rest of my life. And because of it, I am on blood thinner shots twice a day. This is my first pregnancy and im currently 12 weeks and 5 days!!
  • The nurse at my doctor's office said I'm considered high risk due to my hypothyroidism but she said "You are high risk, but not actually high risk" Whatever that means.
  • I'm high risk because I ruptured all the way 2 my cervix with my little girl (she is only 9 Mo & I'm 7 wks) they said we would have died if her water had broken. They didn't know I ruptured till I was opened up for my c-section. I had a previous classical c-section my son was transverse & his twin bro died 6 days b4 they were born so they were anxious to get them out & see what happened. his cord twisted & got a blood clot in it & cut off his oxygen. They said he was perfectly healthy otherwise.well as healthy as a 26 weeker could be. David the handsome little man in the pic weighed 1 lb 12.9 oz. His bro was 1 lb 6 oz. My grandma had two sets of twins & I might be having twins again. The preg is the same as the 1st so far. The Dr actually said I shouldn't get preg again. Well this one wasnt supposed to happen but I'm thrilled anyways.

  • I am high risk this pregnancy due gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, and my 3rd daughter was born w a heart defect (she had a heart cath done@ 4 months). Also i will have to b monitored closely @ delivery bc of a prolapsed umblicord. i am 8w5d today and have had 3 appts and an u/s so far to verify that the pregnancy was viable very scary but they found a heartbeat of 166, but told me that i wasn't as far along as i thought by lmp is should b 11w+. This first trimester seems to b going really slow for me. I wish u ladies all the best.
  • High risk due to new blood clot in leg, post-bariatric surgery, 36 yrs old and bipolar 2 disorder.
  • Im high risk because of gestational diabetes but wouldn't even consider that high risk after reading some of the other things on here. I just have to take glyburide and watch my diet so baby can grow good lungs and not be too big.
  • High risk due to type 1 diabetes. I have had it for 18 years. 8 wear an insulin pump and test my blood sugar anywhere between 10-15 times a day. I also have hypothyroidism and take meds for that. Both of my kids were born a little early at 35 weeks. Had pre term labor with my 2nd from about 27 weeks on. Was seen in labor and delivery about once a week for meds and IV fluids. My 1st has multiple birth defects and a very traumatic birth.
  • @artistmama we have the same disorder. This is also my third pregnancy. But all my losses are in the second trimester.

I am highrisk from primary antiphospholipid syndrome it causes implatation issues and bloodclots in the placenta.
  • Iam type 1 diabetic since I was 10 years old with a heart shaped uterus. I am 9 weeks pregnant with one previous m/c. Iam 32 years old
