I don't think that they do the nuchal u/s if you don't request the bloodwork. I turned down the triple screen and wasn't offered any other screening tests, either. Have you gotten any further with Medical Assistance? You should look into CHiP for once the baby's born, if she's not going to be covered. Have you considered talking to one of your local doctors about whether they work with patients on a sliding scale or using payment plans? Medical bills don't carry interest, and if you tell them your story you may be able to find someone who's sympathetic enough to work with you. Or look into local women's clinics, many of them take patients without any insurance.
@LillieBug: The clinic is the only place I can go that will take me as a high-risk pregnancy, & they also accept my insurance. My old OB, whom I adored, won't take on high-risk patients, though she does accept my insurance. I tried to transfer to her in December, & after reviewing my medical records, she concluded I was better off with the clinic, because they're associated with Conemaugh Hospital, who is supposed to have a great NICU. The hospital she is affiliated with has an OB ward, but no NICU. I was hoping maybe she'd make an exception & take me as a patient, despite the high-risk factor, but no such luck. I don't see why I can't have her pre-natal care & still have my baby at Conemaugh? There are two other OB's at her practice, & 3 midwives, so chances are, she wouldn't be on call to deliver my baby when the day comes, anyway. Maybe it's cause of my crappy insurance, but I thought you could choose which hospital you wanted to deliver at? I don't know...
@artistmamma your ob and the others at her practice wouldn't be able to deliver your baby at Conemaugh because they don't have priveleges there. She won't take you as a patient because you'd go through your whole pregnancy with her and then you'd have no doctor to deliver your baby when you go to the hospital. Doctors have to be affiliated with the hospital in order to practice there, that has nothing to do with your insurance.
@magcaw: Okay, I see what you're saying, & that makes sense. I haven't gotten anywhere with my MA, but my caseworker is terrible to get a hold of. I've called her three times this week alone, & will try again after they're back from lunch this afternoon. It's very frustrating, but I had this problem with her before. She apparently never answers her phone & rarely returns messages.
@magcaw, @LillieBug, @laura536, @conreeaght, @ghettobetty, @OctMommy, @mommy_three85, @carolyntx, @misskerribabee, @2ndbby_ondaway, @HomeBirthAdvocate: Since you all took the time to show me support, caring, and give your advice, I wanted to update you about my situation. While waiting to see if I can get Medicaid, I wrote a very heartfelt letter to my old OB - from the office here in my town that takes my insurance, but doesn't accept high risk cases. I told her everything that the Clinic in Johnstown had neglected to do, the crappy care, the way questions aren't answered, how they don't measure my belly or do urine tests like they're supposed to. Everything. I gave her permission to share my letter with the three other OB's who work with her, and they all agreed to take on my case. They felt that because I was way past the "miscarriage" risk (I'm 27 weeks now), and because of the sheer neglectful care that I'm getting, that I would be far better off with them. I couldn't agree more! They've already ordered some tests, including a gestational diabetes one, I'll have my belly measured, they're going to look over my two past ultrasounds and order another one for growth comparison because of me having a lap-band, and I go in for my first appointment with them tomorrow morning. I'm one happy momma! Thank you ladies, for all your wonderful support and advice. Blessings upon all of your pregnancies and beautiful families!
Yay! I'm so happy for u! I forgot about doing that. My dentist did make an exception for my family becaus my whole family has gone to him our whole lives! That's awesome best wishes sent ur way!!!!
Yay @artistmamma!!!! I'm so happy that they changed their minds!! Now you can rest assured that you and your daughter are getting the care you need. I'm so glad!
It sounds like u have a pretty good dr. My dr back home did alot for me with my first. They even put a hold on my account until my Medicaid went thru(which was a few days after my daughter was born) bc of all of the extra monitoring from being at risk for blood clots in the cord. It says alot when drs go beyond just seeing patients
@Artistmama look for sure for other options swetty. That is awful , I live in ny and I have medicaid and I see a very good doctor. I will pray for you and your baby! I hope you can find good service sweety! No one should get poor service just bcuz they have public health insurance!
@isaiahnjocelynsmommy & @mrs_riviere82: Thank you so much for your concern & advice. I had only two choices of insurance & when compared side by side, Access Plus had better, more comprehensive coverage. But I did just recently get this issue resolved. My old OB, who is awesome, has taken on my case after I wrote her a very open, heartfelt letter about what's going on at the clinic. I mentioned her in this thread as being the only other OB who accepts my insurance, but they normally don't take on high-risk pregnancies. After reading my letter & seeing the kind of "care" I'm getting, her & the three other OB docs in her office all agreed that I needed to get away from the clinic ASAP. I have my first appointment with them tomorrow morning. Hooray!!
Oh my! Thanks God! I am.so happy for u! That is defitnely good news! Best of Luck hun! This is truly amazing, may God Bless their heart n maybe be able to help you along this journey! Best wishes! >hugs<
