@bahamamama4828 I was hoping you'd comment! I didn't think they were necessary. I've been taking my vitamin and am eating a well-balanced diet. Just another thing for us breastfeeding moms to buy that's not really necessary!
Yup exactly. It's preferred to take vitamins as long as u are nursing. I stopped taking mine at one point whole nursing and it took from my teeth, ouch. But if u eat well its ok. Those vitamins are put out by formula companies and a lot of docs and nurses have never taken a human lactation class
I've been told that the only thing b milk doesn't have is vitamin d. According to two family members (one is a Dr the other a rn) there are studies that indicate (NOT PROVE) that a lack of vitamin d can be linked to diabetes later in life.
Babies, like older people, can get vitamin D from exposure to sunlight. Nbut there is concern re sunburn and skin cancer. With my granddaughter I make sure we walk outside for short walks several times a day. 15-20 minutes per day is usually enough. Babies with darker skin and/or live farther north need more sunlight.
You might consider vit D drops then. Pediatrician provided them here. I think low vit D can cause rickets, bone development problems. Not very common but still happens.
my daughters neonatologist told me the main reason for drops is for iron calcium and vitamin d. also ny daughter is a preemie. dont know if that makes a difference.
