Considering canceling my induction

I was due October 7th. I had an appointment that day and the midwife went ahead and scheduled me to go in the evening of the 13th to start Cervidil and they would administer the Pitocin the next morning and she said she would break my water sometime that morning as well. I was 1cm 70%. I honestly thought my baby would decide to come before the induction date so I just went along with it. Now here it is Wednesday and nothing. I've lost a lot of mucus plug but I don't know if its just from being checked..
I went back on Monday for an appointment with the OB for a NST and everything looked great. She tried to schedule an induction as well but I told her the midwife at the same office already scheduled it. The OB said I was about 1.5cm Monday..

Don't get me wrong, I hate being pregnant and I'm ready to see my baby, but ever since I found out I was pregnant I've always said I'd never be induced unless something was wrong.
I'm afraid that I'll give in to an epidural (thanks to that wonderful pitocin) or end up with a C section or just regret it if I go through with the induction. Plus, I don't plan on having any more kids so I'd like to experience real labor this time.

Would it be ok if I just didn't show up at the hospital??

I've tried nipple stimulation, orgasms, bouncing on my ball but nothing.. Going to try sex tonight. What else is there???

  • U don't have to do anything u dont want to, ur body, ur baby, ur birth. If there is nothing medically wrong then ur fine. U have about a 30% higher chance of c section with induction anyway no thanks to the interventions. But it really is up to u. Gooduck! :)
  • idk what to say i know i would go to get induced cause if the baby poops itll get in their lungs and she/he can get sick
  • good luck I mean**
  • iI wish more obs knew how to handle baby pooping during birth. if they delay cord clamping then baby doesn't aspirate. the meconium. u almost never see meconium issues outside hospital with a good midwife
  • I feel the same as you.... this is my first and only baby and I so wanted a natural delivery no inducton no csection. I have told my Dr all of this and she is understanding which is why yesterday when she told me that she wants to induce me on the 26th she had all the support to show me the risks of stillbirth of carrying to term with mothers with GD. I am having to reevaluate my birth plan but ultimately my goal and I know ur goal too is to have a happy healthy baby despite not having the birth u had planned for. However u decide that u want to make that happen is completely up to you but don't lose sight of the end goal. Ultimately u will make the right decision for u and ur new family. :-)
  • Ill pray you make the best decision. :) I had to be medically induced when I swore my whole pregnancy I would never do it. I had crazy BP towards the end and only choice I had was what day within a week to be induced. It was hard but to my surprise my induction went really well without any pitocin! I was mostly against inductions because of the pit. My body took over with only 7 hours of cytotec. Anyways if you do go for the induction I hope the cervidil is enough for you alone!:) Also you definitely can cancel your induction. Labor dust to you!!!

One suggestion I have never seen mentioned on here (maybe I've missed it); but have you ever or do you regularly see a chiropractor? Personally, I've visited one, 1x a month throughtout this pregnancy just to keep everything aligned and on the advice that it helps labor go 25% quicker with less pain (several studies done). And I was just recently informed (being 3 days away from my due date) that having a final lower back and hip adjustment along with some advice on a specific pressure point that "induces" the natural release of chemicals involved with labor, helps to naturally get labor going. I went this AM to have all those final things done at the chiro, and contractions have kicked in...nothing intense yet, but they are slowly starting. Obviously everyone is different, but maybe that would help you? I'm also in agreement not having to be induced (as are chiropractors)... so maybe if you're able, give it a shot?! Good luck! I hope everything goes well for you!
  • I wouldnt unless theres a medical reason to. Your body knows what its doing. With inductions come higher failure to progress rates simply because your baby just wasnt ready to come out.
  • I personally wish I would have waited. I was induced a week afyer being due and it was a bad idea. This time I am refusing induction until im 2wks over or more. I want that natural labor as well!
  • I personally would wait till I was the full 10 days overdue, then agree to being induced dlowly... But thats just me...
  • I got induced a day before my due date n I'm glad I did. I tried everything to induce my self n nothing worked. Come to find out he was stuck.
  • My baby popped in the womb and doc and I are very glad I induced when I did cuz it can be very dangerous if it got in his lungs. So I'm so glad about my decision to induce. I was 39 weeks
  • All 3 of my older children were so kind to poop in utero. They were all just fine. All vag. births that started on their own & born a few days before their due date. My 2nd did need oxygen for a moment, but I don't know if it was b/c of that. i think it was just the stress of my labors (all back labors that made them do it.)
  • Okay im confuse lots of ladies dnt want or wished they never got induce. I well like to know wats bad about it & wats the differnts
  • I loved my induction, but it's whatever you feel most comfortable with. Can you reschedule with your OB before your appointment? I wouldn't just not go in, but it might help to discuss with your Dr and make a plan together for how you want your labor to go.
  • I had contractions, but wasn't processing for 3 days, my water broke on it's own & everything the 3rd day. Finally, after hours they have me pitocin & about 4 hrs later I had my first son. I wasn't making enough chemicals to dialate. I had an epidural so I could rest b4 I pushed. It was ok, I wish my body would have done what it needed to but things happen. Did they give you a reason y to induce?
  • The chiropractor put me into labor using pressure points in my hand.

Unless it is medically necessary in which it will harn you or baby then i would cancel the induction date..my dr wouldnt let me go to 41wks.. have you tried walking or walking stairs? Or evening pemrose
  • I've always heard your chances of c-section goes up the further you are after your due date... Was I told wrong?
