Obviously if this were early 1800s, and I had no other choice, clearly I would choose it as was best for my baby to survive & thrive. But thankfully, we live at a time where parenting is a choice & individual lifestyle. I'm sure we can all agree that the one thing that hasn't changed over the course of time is the need to supply our babies with adequate nutrition. :)

  • We should also consider that breastfeeding is at an all time high today for the first time since the introduction of formula. I know my mom did not bf and I made the choice to try (with both of my children) based on my own preference. In fact, my mom was openly opposed to it despite the benefits.

  • @armahnismommy My thread was not intended to be a debate, it was simply to state my opinions on formula feeding after breastfeeding. More helpful information and support for the moms like me who could not bf or even those who chose not to. I clearly state positives for both ff and bf and support both and bash neither.

  • @armahnismommy Fair enough, I am just a tad irritated at some things I have read that were aimed at either this post or me personally that I just didn't appreciate. However, I took that irritation and turned it into what I had hoped would be a positive post for ff without the negativity I saw on some other posts.

  • What in the HELL @rileyandme?! How rude! I had someone tell me that my son was too chunky and that I feed him too much breastmilk and have I considered switching to formula? :O

  • @rileyandme, I had a friend that FF her son, but at three days began putting rice cereal in his bottle to the consistency of mashed potatoes. By two months, he was 23 pounds!
  • @captivated omg!!!! That's mad crazy!!!!!
  • Holy cow @captivated thats crazy!

  • Yeah...I know. He is 4 now and enormous. He is literally morbidly obese. Poor guy.
  • @RileyAndMe You should have given her the stink eye. lol

@captivated I would consider that almost abuse! My MIL tried to tell me I needed to do that and I flat out told her no. haha
  • @misskristin, I thought the same thing :( I remember when I was pregnant she had me babysit him. I tried to feed him for 6 hours and he screamed and cried. I called her frantically, but she never answered the phone. Turns out, she hadn't cut the nipple so the "sludge" couldn't come out of the bottle. She would literally cut the entire top off the nipple to feed him. He was only a month old!!
  • I have donated using human milk for human babies. I would not give milk from a stranger myself. Someof thw women have been approved by the milkbank as I have.
