edited March 2011 in First Trimester
I'm on baby #3 and about 6wks, my family feels really strongly about not carrying my two year old. Im not sure if I agree. How can I not carry her? She's still my baby! What do u guys think?

  • My bfs son is three and I use to pick him up but not carry him but I had some spotting this week so doctor said no heavy lifting for a while
  • I still carry my niece and she's 2 and almost 39 pounds and im 24 weeks. I know I shouldn't, but I just love holding her! Haha
  • carried my 1 and 3yo at the same time yesterday I'm 30weeks, if we wernt intended 2 be able to carry or other children while pregnant I dont think we would be able 2 6ave children so close together my grandmither had 10 kids in 10 yrs 1 set of twins n I can guarantee she carried them my mum had 4 under 5 n she also carried us I think its a natural thing
  • My midwife told me not to lift my 2 yr old cuz my cervix is soft. She didn't say anything about carrying him though and he's only 25 lbs. I don't think its a problem most times unless you are weird like me and have a soft cervix so early in pregnancy. I do still pick him up though.....how can I not. It's not like a 2yr old just runs of to bed by himself and he is afraid to walk down the stairs anyways.
  • I carry my 3 year old and 2 year old nephews. How can you not? Especially when they act up and won't take thenselves to time out. As much as we would like to put life on hold for pregnancy we just cant
  • Im 31wks now and im carrying and lifting my nephew (19 month) but just for a short time,3-times a week??? You have to hear about your body...

  • Can u get someone to carry ur child and pass to u while ur sitting?
  • Im 28 weeks n my son iz 2yrs old n I still carry him 4rm time 2 time. Iz very hard 2 resist esp. afta a long day of bein @ skool. So wen I walk n da door he iz da 1st persn I look 4r.
  • We unfortunately only get danny every other weekend and since getting prego my bf doesn't really let me pick him up
  • I carry my 3 year old stepson who is small for his age.
  • My OB told me no constant lifting of anything over 25 lbs. I have a 2 year old who is 29 lbs. She said once in awhile is ok like in/out of crib or car/carseat, but no carrying him anymore. He's pretty good about walking.
  • I carry my daughter and I'm a few days shy of 34 weeks, and she is 2 and half years
  • With my last pregnancy I had to stop carrying my oldest (he was 2 and prbably near 30lbs at the time) toward the end because I just didn't have the stamina to walk around with him and my giant belly. But up until my body tells me I can't do it I don't stop. I still carry my oldest (now 4) to bed and my youngest (now 2) everywhere because he's a big baby, but I'm only 14 weeks and don't have a belly yet. I had a c-section when my first was born and they said no lifting anything over 10lbs...my son was nearly 11lbs at birth. I just laughed and so did my doctor and she said that they have to tell us that, but that she wouldn't worry about lifting him. I think they say some things to cover their own butts, even if they're not 100% necessary. If you have complications, though, i'd definitely listen to your doctor.
  • Thanks everyone! I've always had pretty healthy pregnancies and I only lift her from time to time, like into her high chair or carseat. I'm a stay at home mom so I don't have anyone else to help. Hopefully it will turn out ok.
  • I carry my one and a half year old god daughter all the time with no problems
  • I carry my 32lb 3.5 yr old and my 25 lb 8 month old alllll the time. Dr said no reason not to
  • Also my bfs three year old is half my height and probably fifty pounds he's so tall for his age people think he's five
  • my dr said not to lift over 20 lbs butt my 11 month old is 21... hes too little not to carry and wen the new one comes he wont get as much carrying time so.. im not puting him down till then.. i already hav guilt about it.. so hes my baby baby till the next one comes and he has to share
  • I have a daughter that just turned 1 a few weeks ago. Of course I carry her around all the time. She has only been walking a few weeks. Strollers haven't always been around after all and there isn't always gonna be someone around to help.
  • I was told not to lift over 25lbs but i have a 2 year old who's like 35lbs and sometime my 4 year old who's about 42 pounds. My 2 year old is tall for her age not fat and my 4 is small for his. So im trying not to lift them but hard not to.
  • I listen to my body. I work in childcare, so it can be hard to not frequently hold and lift children. If I start to feel uncomfortable, I don't do it. And I always squat and lift with my legs. Some days I just feel more crampy and I don't even hold anyone.
  • I pick my almost 3 year old girl up from time to time. She is heavy and I don't cary her too much. But she is my snugle bug. I just let her know, mommy is carying baby Jazcyra in her tummy too, so both of you get a lil to heavy for mommy. And I try to sit down and let her hang in my lap. But I am 32weeks and don't have any real issues. So as long as Im ok, and not hurting I'll cary her a bit. But its never more then a min or two.
