affects of marijuana this late in pregnancy..

My fiance and I were occasional pot smokers until I got pregnant and soon realized it was the only thing that allowed me to hold down anything.. and by anything I mean anything even water and crackers. So after 3 emergency room trips because of dehydrationa nd almost malnutrition they told me I might have hyperemisis. After those serious scares I knew I couldn't stop . I would stop for a day and the puking would come right back. Tried to stop for two weeks and its all night and all morning after I eat anything it comes right back up. Undigested. I get regular urinalysis from my doctor and they haven't said anything but I'm worried that cps might still take away our baby because I have been using marijuana. Wouldn't the doc say something if it was an issue? And would they give u a warning before they jus take away the baby? And iv tried everything for nausea but I am open to any other suggestions. I wouldn't smoke it if I didn't think I needed it. My bff smoked with her baby and they never mentioned it.. PLEASE HELP!!!

  • ask your doc they would know if cps will get involved
  • I wouldn't say anything. They aren't allowed to test for drugs without your permission. A few of my friends had smoked when they were pregnant and weren't confronted about it.

  • I have mentioned it but he kinda jus blew me off. I guess I jus gotta put it bluntly " is cps gonna take my child for medicating?" I have had 6 doctors/midwives through this pregnancy, I would think atleast one of them would have said something..
  • I gave one doctor I had previously the right to test me.. I think that gives them all the right away to do it. And they even came in and told me my drug test came back negative???? Wha???
  • I would talk to ut doc. Tell them the entire situation and see if they know of anything u can do or change.
  • I smoked occassionally last pregnancy it seemed like the last two weeks I smoked more. They didn't test the baby when I had her n if they did nothing happened, she even fractured her collar bone during delivery. I think it all depends on the Dr/hospital and if there is n e complications. Probably good to talk to your Dr. My cousin also smoked n her Dr was fully aware n didn't seem to care.
  • I would say that they COULD take your child. I personally don't smoke but I don't pass judgement on others that do. I also believe that it should be legalized. Please speak with your drs about it. It is still a foreign substance that is being given to your baby that could harm him/her. Please just talk to someone and make your desision for that baby!
  • If it was negative then u aren't smoking enough to show which is good.
  • If nausea is the problem then your doc can give you a prescription to help, mine did. Ask them about zofran or other meds. They're not going to just allow you to continue to hav severe nausea if you cant keep anything down, they kno thts not good for your baby.
  • And I think it would make a difference if I had been in previous trouble with the law and/or been in rehab for any kinda drug or alcohol. But iv never been in trouble for anything other than driving. And dnt have problems with any drug. I love my child and wouldn't do anything to hurt her. It is very nerve racking when u aren't even keeping down water and saltines for 5 days.. I was so desperate. the meds they gave me did not work. Tried changing vitamins tried eating whatever sounded bareable and pot was the only thing I could find that helps with my appetite AND nausea.
  • marijauna helps with the sickness and if thats all that helps at the moment go for it. Pro-mary jane.
  • Just be honest with ur doc. They have probably dealt with someone with similar issues before
  • They won't take your kid for that. It's not a big enough offense. A lot of moms do, and it doesn't mean your a bad parent. Because its not a narcotic or hallucinagen. Just watch how often.(:
  • I personally wouldn't while pregnant just due to the risks but not eating isn't good either. I hope everything goes well.
  • Seems like the doc didn't wanna do anything cuz I wasn't showing any malnutrition(because I was smoking) but until there's a problem they dnt want to address it. Like I said I tried themeds and my stomache is so sensitive to it that they start to dissolve and I get nauseious again.. I dnt want to make there be a problem so they can figure it out. Scared but I feel like my body is needing it. I was never addicted before and know its not addiction now but I def dnt want our baby girl to be harmed..
  • I doubt it will help you, but the dry diet helped my mom when she had my twin sisters. I had wretched nausea, so I didn't even want to eat. The dry diet helped keep that under control so I could get something in me. Google it. It's easy to try, at least.
  • My doctor told me shed rathe I smoke pot than smoke cigarettes. As long as I wasn't excessive about it then there most likely wouldn't be any problems with my baby. I stopped smoking completely at about 18 weeks because I started feeling guilty. Im 24 weeks now and baby seems perfectly healthy. My doctor also told me smoking is more harmful the further along you are because the lungs are one of the last things to develop.
  • I googled everything I cud. Were gonna stop again to see if anythings changed. I'm hopeful. Love the advice and opinions
  • I'm 32 weeks pregnant. Last trimester. I dnt smoke a lot. Only when needed. Once in the am and right before dinner. Inbetween those times I dnt eat much but I try to keep it on the healthy side. But if french fries sound good and I think I can keep em down than that's what I'm eating.. lol

She got her back but cps checks up on her. Ugh stupid phone! Depends on state I think. I live in texas
  • Is say to slow down and ween yourself off... ask your Dr and make sure he knows that you do it... hiding it is worse when it comes time...baby should be fine... the only bad thing is lowered oxygen to baby so possible lung problems...
  • At my hospital every appointment I have they test my urine for various things including drugs. They told me they keep cps updated on mother who uses drugs but I won't know when cps gets involved

  • @Almost4 I live in houston tx! Lol and yes. Texas takes thibgs to seriously she never smoked but her baby daddy would hold her after smoking outside so I guess thats why they thought she smoked.
  • I live in ma and know many people that have smoked weed while pregnant, no questions were ever asked their babies were 100% healthy. Personally I think it would be better.to smoke a little here and there if your so sick and it helps. google Dr. Melanie Dreher, she did a study on marajuana and pregnancy. Im not sure what the law.are where you live but her research might give you peace of mind.
  • Hiya I love pot lol I tried to stop at the beginning but was having sleeping problem. I kinda just gradually quit. Im 14weeks now n if I hit the bong ill cough so hard it hurts so thats a no no. ive had one shotgun in like past 3 weeks so im doin good. This is the longest ive gone since I stared smoking mj. I talked to my doc about it and he wasnt concerned just told me to try n ween myself off of it but that I need to completely stop at least a month before baby gets here, so that it doesnt cause a rapid labor and it wont be in my babys system.ya know just in case. Plus like if u hit the bowl or whatever like 3-5 times a week n drink plenty of water it wont show up in a pee test, at least for me it didnt. Your heart will tell u if ur doing anything thatll hurt ur baby ;) my doc would freak if he thought I was smoking cigarettes lol one more thing, when u google, keep in mind that any test done in the u.s. studying the effects of marijuana can only report the NEGATIVE effects. Gay. Look up Melanie Dreher and her study in jamaica I think it was :D
